What was the inspiration for the piece published in the issue?
This poem is based on a true story, a story that always inspires both shock and laughter when it’s told. But in some ways, it’s also the most normal thing— many plants have always been dispersed like this, by birds and mammals who eat the fruit and bring the seeds with them; by humans who took them with to new homes. The borders we draw are much more porous than many like to imagine.
