We love learning more about our contributors, and an interview seemed like a fun way to hear more about the writers and artists we publish, so we gave them a choice of questions to answer. We hope you also enjoy hearing more about the artists and their works. Read on and check out this artwork from Aleksey Nisenboym.

What was the inspiration for the piece published in the issue?
The inspiration for the house on chicken feet are the old slavic fairy tales
I used to read and watch on tv when I was a kid. Even now as an adult there is
something magical to them.

Who or what inspires your work generally?
My inspiration is really my personal drive. I have had a life long career in retail
and customer service jobs. Within the last 2-3 years I decided to focus on a career
path that would bring a bit of meaning to my life.

Who are some of your favorite writers or artists,
and what do you like about them?
I’ve always been drawn to creative works that try to show the people and characters
in a unique light. Terry Pratchett was one of my favorite writers. There was something
about his work, mostly in his later work, that always felt like it was breaking the mold
of how you can tell stories. I also love the work of Mile Leigh, the director, his
Neo Realism approach felt unique for filmmaking even today.

What is your #1 advice for other writers or artists?
When you’re starting out, your work is probably going to be terrible. That’s important to accept as the underlying truth to the journey. Rarely ever does anyone start off with extraordinary work. Even as you improve, sometimes you'll see how terrible your work really is. When you start to see that yourself is when you know you’re really improving.

What is your “white whale”?
I would really love to work on children's books or comics. For any publisher really. I have a few small comics i’m writing that I hope to finish by the end of 2024.
