We love learning more about our contributors, and an interview seemed like a fun way to hear more about the writers and artists we publish, so we gave them a choice of questions to answer. What are some of your favorite writers or artists, and what do you like about them?
Stephen Graham Jones, Chuck Tingle, and Brenda Peynado have been my go-to writers recently. Kind of a grab bag of content there, but each of them have such unique voices that I find myself captivated by. I also have to shout out Courtney Barnett and The Mountain Goats for lyricism -- whenever I'm having trouble writing, they bring me back.
What do you do in the rest of your life and how does that connect and/or conflict with your creative life?
A lot of TTRGs and improv comedy. Both have taught me a lot about scene and character work, but I have to be careful. There's an immediate gratification to telling stories that exist only in one room that can make writing feel impossibly daunting.
What is your "white whale"?
Right now, it's a pre-2025 copy of Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I don't care for the Taylor Sheridan introduction and I want the original cover typeface.
We think of "after happy hour" as the time you can really let loose and be yourself. What is your after happy hour?
In the car, leaving a good time, especially if it's past midnight. Life never feels more like a movie.
What is your favorite vice? What are you drinking at happy hour, in a literal or a metaphorical sense?
Mixed drinks with good friends. Ideally, I'm getting a Penicillin at Tina's in Lawrenceville.
