Followers of After Happy Hour may have noticed our conspicuous silence over the past few months. The truth is, as we passed our 10-issue mark, we realized it was time to think carefully about our future as a journal.
The After Happy Hour Review was founded as a labor of love by members of the Hour After Happy Hour workshop. Over time, many of those founding members moved on to other endeavors. As the connection weakened between the journal and the workshop, we realized it wasn’t doing a service to either.
The Hour After Happy Hour workshop is still going strong! You’ll find them every Thursday at Lot 17. If you want to check them out, you can reach out through their Facebook group or e-mail the moderator at hourafterhappyhour [at] gmail [dot] com.
And the journal’s still alive and kicking, too–just under the management of a more different Pittsburgh-based workshop group: the Rahnd Table, who are a bit squirrelier than the HAHH crew but can be found as a collective somewhere in Bloomfield on Tuesdays (and individually somewhere in Bloomfield most other nights).
As a member of both workshops and a long-time editor with After Happy Hour, I’m super stoked for this new evolution of the journal. We’ve taken a few months off from reading submissions, and as much as editors like to complain about slush piles, I have to admit I miss it.
After Happy Hour will officially re-open to submissions on October 1st. In the meantime, we’ll be updating our editorial info so you can get an idea of what the new editors are into. Generally speaking, it’s a lot like what we wanted before: your weirdest, most wonderful words.
So cheers to new beginnings! I’m looking forward to reading what yinz have to send our way.
